Exhibition “Surface Texture” by Oleksandra Shevchenko

Touching certain surfaces stirs up feelings in us that repel, attract, or bring back memories. Touch can tell us more than sounds and smells, and tactility does not even require physical interaction — sometimes it is enough just to watch a discharge pass through the fingertips.

The exhibition “Surface Texture” by Kharkiv artist Oleksandra Shevchenko tells about this feeling — a visible tactility that sends us back to experience.

“In my practice, I often use symbols, both conventional and personal. I often build my works as a story, trying to evoke a sensory and emotional response in the viewer, to encourage them to think — I like to observe different parts of life and reflect on them together with the viewer,” the artist notes.

The exhibition features oil and watercolor works that play with texture in the plane, objects made of plaster and cement, and rust as an artistic technique. You cannot touch the works, but a close look at them will be enough to feel them to the touch.

The exhibition is realized as part of the “Small Wall” project. Thanks to your support on WayforPay, we have the opportunity to provide a platform for popularizing the creativity of young, promising and proactive artists.
